Check later-year tuition separately

The SILS admission guide may list the per-semester tuition of later years on a different schedule from the first year.

When comparing first-year costs, it is important not to mix in the higher per-semester tuition of later years. The figures here are the published first-year cost for the entry year only.

Universities do not define fees such as association fees in exactly the same way. Check which items are included in the fee table of the latest admission guide.

What happens to tuition while studying abroad?

In SILS's study abroad programmes, the treatment of tuition depends on the programme.

Living costs, travel and insurance are separate.

ProgrammeBasic approach to tuition
Exchange ProgramsYou pay Waseda University tuition only; the host university's tuition is waived
SILS Bilateral ProgramsYou pay Waseda University tuition only; the host university's tuition is waived
Customized Study ProgramYou pay a programme fee, and there is a mechanism under which Waseda tuition is not charged during the stay abroad

Compared with PEARL

For 2026 entry, the first-year published cost is 1,693,000 yen at SILS and 1,508,350 yen at PEARL, a difference of 184,650 yen.

The fee definitions and programme structures differ, so do not choose on the cost gap alone. PEARL's history is in Keio PEARL tuition history and ICU's in ICU tuition history.

Summary

SILS's first-year published cost rose about 6.3% between 2021 and 2026. If you include study abroad in your cost planning, check for each type of programme whether you pay Waseda tuition, the host university's tuition, or a programme fee.
