School English and tests
We use the student's own textbook, workbook, homework and test material to find gaps in grammar, vocabulary and reading.
English for secondary school students
Support with school English, reading, writing and speaking, and preparation for IELTS or TOEFL. We start from the student's current level and goal, then plan the lessons around the school materials and the time available.

Overview
Petra Tutors offers one-to-one English lessons shaped around the student's school materials, coursework and tests, speaking practice or an English qualification. Lessons can be online or, in Amstelveen and Amsterdam, in person.
We use the student's own textbook, workbook, homework and test material to find gaps in grammar, vocabulary and reading.
Lessons can combine longer reading, essay writing, conversation and pronunciation, depending on what the student needs now.
For students at international schools, we can support English-language coursework. IELTS and TOEFL preparation is available where a suitable tutor is confirmed.
Common goals
When current work depends on earlier grammar or vocabulary, we go back to those foundations before returning to the current unit.
We use the test topics, the textbook and recent answers to decide what to prioritise in the time available.
We work on reading strategy, paragraph structure, reasoning and vocabulary, instead of giving every skill equal time.
Conversation, pronunciation and short opinion answers can be practised alongside school or exam English.
Lesson format
Online lessons are available anywhere in the Netherlands. In-person lessons are mainly offered in Amstelveen and Amsterdam, subject to tutor availability and location.
Online lessons can be fitted around school, homework and other activities without a separate journey.
Online matching is not limited to tutors who can travel to one area, so it is easier to find a tutor whose experience fits the student's goal.
Textbooks, PDFs, writing and recent answers can be shared during the lesson so unclear parts can be reviewed directly.
How lessons are planned
A student preparing for a school test needs a different plan from one working on speaking or an English qualification. We start by clarifying the purpose, then narrow down the lesson priorities.
We use school results, recent work, any English qualifications and known weaker areas to understand the starting point.
We confirm whether the immediate priority is a test, coursework, speaking, or an exam such as IELTS or TOEFL.
We decide whether the lessons use school materials, exam materials or another resource that fits the goal.
If the school schedule or a test date changes, the next lessons change with it.
Tutor matching
The match considers more than English ability: the goal, the materials in use, preferred times and whether the tutor can teach effectively online or in person. Then we suggest suitable tutors.
