About Petra Tutors
in the Netherlands

Petra is a Japanese-founded tutoring company. We are expanding one-to-one tutoring to the Netherlands, building on our experience in Japan.

The two people behind Petra

Petra Tutors was started by two university students in Japan.

Riku Ishida, Founding Director

Riku Ishida

Founding Director

Keio University · University of Amsterdam

Riku co-founded Petra while studying at Keio University, and now also studies at the University of Amsterdam. He's involved in shaping how the service works and how families and tutors interact with it.

Yutaka Takaku, Founding Director

Yutaka Takaku

Founding Director

Keio University

Yutaka co-founded Petra while studying at Keio University, and is involved in operating and developing Petra as a tutoring service.

Riku and Yutaka founded Petra Education while studying at university in Japan. We wanted a service that handles tutor matching, progress updates and ongoing support, so that families do not have to arrange everything themselves. We have now started one-to-one tutoring in the Netherlands: in person mainly in Amstelveen and Amsterdam, and online anywhere in the country.

From tutor selection to ongoing support.

We suggest tutors who fit the student's goals and learning style, then follow up with lesson updates and adjustments.

  1. 01

    Tutor matching

We suggest tutors with experience that suits the student's subject, level and goals.

  2. 02

    Progress updates

We share what was covered, what the student can now do and what comes next, including with parents.

  3. 03

    Regular review

We review the content, the frequency of lessons and the choice of tutor as the student progresses.

  4. 04

    Academic confidence

We aim to support understanding as well as results, so students can approach their studies with confidence.

What matters to us at Petra

We adapt to each student's understanding and learning style. Tutors use questions and discussion to encourage independent thinking rather than simply giving answers.

  • Building understanding through conversation

Rather than only explaining, tutors use questions and discussion to check how the student is thinking.

  • Building on small successes

We recognise progress in understanding, reading and speaking, rather than focusing only on a distant goal.

  • Making progress visible

We set out what each lesson covered and what comes next, so parents can see where things stand.

About the Petra team

The tutor does not work alone. Our team monitors lesson content, the tutor-student fit and what is shared with parents.

Tutor and team working together

The tutor leads the lessons. Our team also reviews tutor selection, lesson reports and any changes needed, so you can follow progress without managing every detail yourself.

· Matching tutors and checking the fit with each student

· Sharing what was covered and what is planned next

· Adjusting the tutor, content or frequency when needed

What we care about

At Petra Tutors, we care about short-term results and about whether the student feels secure enough to keep learning.

  • Feeling comfortable asking questions

We want students to feel able to ask questions and leave each lesson with fewer uncertainties.

  • Parents can follow progress

We share what each lesson covered and what comes next, so it is easy to follow from home.

  • Continuing to find what fits

We do not stay fixed on the first approach. We adjust it as understanding and goals develop.
